EDT Launches Exams for Zoom, a Non-invasive Solution for Online Exams

PRESS RELEASE

EDT launches Exams for Zoom, a non-invasive solution for online exams that both institutions and participants can trust, in a familiar Zoom environment.

The initiative is led by education technology industry leaders and backed by millions of dollars and years of research.

EDT Launches Exams for Zoom, a Non-invasive Solution for Online Exams 51

Today Exams for Zoom announces a solution that marries the simplicity and ubiquity of online video conferencing with the transparent and non-invasive deployment of advanced technologies (with features like sentiment analysis, computer vision, artificial intelligence), with the ultimate goal to better inform and support online assessments.

The secure exams sector has evolved out of necessity, often presented with an almost Orwellian type of control. “We recognized an opportunity to disrupt with a new sub-segment in the online exams industry because both universities and students dislike most proctoring solutions, however they are forced to utilize them for accreditation and certification purposes,” says Pablo Langa, CEO at Exams for Zoom.

“Exams for Zoom provides the foundation for trust, academic integrity and modern assessment methodologies,” said Alan Greenberg, Chief Solution Evangelist at Exams for Zoom and former EMEA head of Education at Apple. The initiative focuses on providing real time, behind the scenes metadata so that great assessment experiences can stand out from average ones, all in a Zoom-like environment that both institutions and participants are familiar with and trust.

Built for Zoom with a global mindset, Exams for Zoom is launching today with a set of industry partners in K12, Higher Education and the corporate space, that combined touch millions of users in different corners of the world. These early adopter partners are helping inform the product roadmap as it heads to its first general availability version later this fall.

As former Global Education Leader at Zoom and current Senior Advisor to Exams for Zoom, Anne Keough Keehn claims that, “There is an increasing need for more sophisticated synchronous use cases in education. We are extremely excited about Exams for Zoom and its simplicity to bring trusted online exams to all, on Zoom.”

The solution has been inspired by European research activities that started in 2016, funded by the European Union with more than $8M USD, involving more than 22,000 participants and 450 faculty in 10 countries (An Adaptive Trust-based e-assessment System for Learning).

Interested institutions, corporations, schools, policy makers and educators can learn more at Examsforzoom.com and request further information and product details.

MEL VR Science Lab: Best VR Science Simulation App in 2022

What is MEL VR Science Lab?

It is difficult nowadays to retain the attention of children with formulas and boring textbooks, therefore teachers are always trying to find innovative ways to deliver their content. With MEL VR Science Lab, science becomes a favorite subject at home and at school! Immersing students in a virtual reality experience with short 5-minute VR lessons, interactive labs, and simulations is an excellent way to deliver complex chemical and physical concepts through engaging visualizations.

MEL VR Science Lab is a growing series of science simulations, lessons, and labs covering chemistry and physics. Made to fit right into the school curriculum, Virtual Reality turns studying into an interactive and immersive experience, making learning entertaining!

With VR headsets on, learners will be immersed in a VR science lab where they will see chemical compounds and physical reactions inside everyday objects. They will zoom in on seemingly simple objects like a pencil or a balloon, fly between molecules and atoms, and understand the differences between solids and gaseous substances at a molecular level!

How Does this MEL VR Science Lab Work?

MEL VR Science Lessons

At present, the application contains a growing library of over 70 VR lessons, labs, and simulations that cover all the main chemistry and physics topics.

Samples of MEL VR Science Lessons
  • Atoms in Solids

The first lesson shows that all matter consists of atoms. It will take students inside graphite and a diamond. Students will see that both materials consist of the same carbon atoms, but have very different properties because their atomic level structure is different. Students will also learn that atoms in solids do not stay still – they vibrate.

  • Interactive Periodic Table

You can play with this interactive periodic table, exploring each atom and adjusting its electron orbitals and the corresponding configuration diagram.

  • Molecular Formula

In this interactive lab there are many different molecular compounds you can zoom into and see their molecules. You must write down their molecular formulas.

  • Pressure Measurement

In this lab, you can register how many particles hit the wall and how hard. You can make measurements for different areas. Use the obtained data to calculate the pressure.

MEL Pressure Measurement

  • Charges and Forces

The term charge is introduced, and the attraction and repelling of charges are explained. You can see how charged balls interact: the forces applied to them and their movement under these forces.

MEL Charges and Forces

Teacher Mode

While using MEL VR Science Lab, teachers can control the lesson flow using the special teacher mode with a few touches of their tablet. They can instantly connect to all the student devices, start and pause the lesson and control the progress of each student.

MEL VR Science Lab: Best VR Science Simulation App in 2022 57

Pricing and Set-Up
  1. Download MEL VR Science Smilulations app on your tablet.
  2. Purchase a license here to receive an email with an activation link.
  3. Download MEL VR Science Simulations app on your classroom devices from Apple Store or Google Playstore — they will automatically connect to the tablet.
  4. Control the lesson flow with a few clicks.
Educational Values
  • Understanding, not memorizing

To understand chemistry and physics, you have to understand what is happening on the molecular and atomic level. Just memorizing formulas and facts is not enough.

What could be a better way to understand the behavior of atoms, ions, and molecules than to put yourself inside chemical reactions, to see all these particles with your own eyes.

  • Connecting the real world with the world of molecules

Each lesson, lab, or simulation starts in a lab and then zooms in to the molecular level.

Imagine being able to shrink a billion times, like Ant-man, allowing you to see what otherwise would remain invisible.

Chemistry and physics are difficult because you have to connect the macro and micro worlds in an overall concept and see how they are linked.

  • Interactive experiments with atoms and molecules

We do not mimic a classic lab, but provide interactive lessons where kids can conduct experiments on atoms and molecules that are otherwise impossible:

– Build your own atom
– Build your own molecule
– Measure bond energies
– Play with ionization energy, etc.

  • Focusing

VR takes students out of their surroundings. They can focus 100 percent on their lessons without distractions.

If you’ve ever tried to convince kids to focus on their studying, rather than texting, chit-chatting, etc. while they « study», you know exactly what we are talking about.

Short 3–7 minute long sessions. After 3–7 minutes, a child’s ability to keep absorbing new information drops. But during these minutes, their attention is complete and their learning is intense.

Kiddle: Best & Safest Search Engine for Kids in 2021

What is Kiddle?

Kiddle: Best & Safest Search Engine for Kids in 2021 59Kiddle is a web search engine for kids and an online encyclopedia that emphasizes safety for young children by pushing child-safe content higher in its search results. It’s designed to block profanity and other questionable words from search results.

After the user enters the subject, Kiddle presents search results with the first three results being deemed safe and written specifically for kids and “checked by Kiddle editors”. The next four results are safe sites not written especially for kids, but presented in kid-friendly language. The eighth result and anything else beyond are safe sites written for adults but harder to understand for kids.

If the user enters words that may not be suitable for children, a picture of a robot is displayed telling the user to try again.

How Does it Work?

How is this Tool Designed Specifically for Kids?

1) Safe Search: sites appearing in this search results satisfy family-friendly requirements, as it filters sites with explicit or deceptive content. You can read more on kids’ safe search here.

2) Kids-Oriented Results: the points below illustrate how this kids’ search engine returns results for each query (in the order shown):

  • Safe sites and pages are written specifically for kids. Handpicked and checked by Kiddle editors.
    Typically, results 1-3.
  • Safe trusted sites that are not written specifically for kids but have content written in a simple way, easy for kids to understand. Handpicked and checked by Kiddle editors.
    Typically, results 4-7.
  • Safe, famous sites that are written for adults, providing expert content, but are harder for kids to understand. Filtered by Google safe search.
    Typically, results 8 onwards.

3) Big Thumbnails: most search results are illustrated with big thumbnails, which makes it easier to scan the results, differentiate between them, and click the most appropriate results to your query. Thumbnails serve as visual clues and are especially beneficial to kids as they don’t read as fast as adults.

4) Large Arial font in search results provides better readability for kids.

5) Privacy: This kids’ search engine doesn’t collect any personally identifiable information, and its logs are deleted every 24 hours. You can read their full privacy statement here.

How to Create Free Educational Games in Educaplay?
Riddle

Riddle is an activity in which you must find out a word according to some given clues.

Every time you ask for a clue, your score is reduced; this is the reason why you must try to guess the word using the lowest number of clues. But be careful because every riddle has a maximum number of attempts that you are not allowed to exceed.

The clues can be text or audio clues. There may also be an image that is slowly revealed each time you ask for a clue.

Educaplay Riddles are quick games that can help the player review concepts through definitions, sounds and images.

Create Free Educational Games in Educaplay

Fill in the Blanks Game

The Fill in the Blanks Game activity consists of filling in the missing words of a given text. The text can be phrases, sentences, or even full paragraphs.

There are two methods to fill in the blanks:

  1. Clicking on the missing words from a jumbled list in the sidebar. The words must be chosen in the order they appear in the text. If you make a mistake, click on the incorrect word to return it to the word list.
  2. Typing each word into the blanks.

The difficulty level of the activity will vary depending on how many words are missing from the text. Some activities will only be missing a few words and will be relatively easy to complete. Other activities will present more of a challenge by requiring you to completely rewrite the sentence from the mixed-up words.

This activity is often used in language courses and children’s classes.

It is an interesting activity to strengthen concepts and their meanings, with a greater difficulty if the answer has to be whole written (and not clicked on).

Create Free Educational Games in Educaplay

Crossword Puzzle

A Crossword Puzzle is a grid of squares that contain blanks for words that overlap horizontally and vertically. Clues are given for each word.

When the user clicks on one of the blank squares, the clue for that word will be shown. Then the user can type in the word.

In Educaplay’s Crossword activity, there are three ways to give the clue:

  1. With a text, as commonly used.
  2. With a sound.
  3. With an image.

You can choose to make help buttons available so that the user can ask to have a letter, or even an entire word, revealed. Each time a help button is used, the user’s score is reduced.

After filling in all of the words, the user must press CORRECT to check the answers and see the score or correct any mistakes.

Create Free Educational Games in Educaplay

Dialogue Game

In the Dialogue Game, the user listens to and reads along with a dialogue between two or more characters.

When you create the activity, you have the option to choose a character and mute the audio so that the user can play that role instead of just listening to the dialogue.

The user can choose to have the dialogue advance automatically from one line to the next or play the dialogue at his or her own pace by clicking on each line.

Since you create both the characters and the dialogue for the activity, you need to record or upload the audio for each part of the dialogue.

Create Free Educational Games in Educaplay

Dictation Game

In the Dictation Game, the user must type a dictated text exactly as it is spoken.

In order for the scoring to be accurate, is important that you say the punctuation (“comma”, “period”, “question mark”, etc.) as you record the dictation.

When you create the dictation activity, you will give it a title and adjust various other settings:

  1. Sensitivity to capital letters.
